Brothers and sisters in arms,
Heads up – the VA just put out a fresh fraud alert on a new postcard scam hitting veterans and their spouses. It's called the “Veterans Savings Program” (sometimes pitched with numbers like extra $185/month or similar). These scammers are sending official-looking postcards claiming you or your spouse qualify for extra VA benefits, bigger payments, CHAMPVA, TRICARE, dental coverage, etc. — even if you don't have a VA disability rating.
This is 100% fake. No such program exists.

How the Scam Works:

  • You get an unsolicited postcard in the mail urging you to call a number ASAP (often within 5 days) to claim your "benefits."
  • They pretend to be affiliated with VA.
  • Once you call, they butter you up with praise for your service to build trust, then try to steal your SSN, bank info, or other personal details.

VA's Advice (Straight from the Official Alert):
  • Do NOT call the number on the postcard.
  • Refuse to engage — hang up on unsolicited calls.
  • Never share personal or financial info with anyone who contacts you this way.
  • If in doubt, contact VA directly at 1-800-827-1000.
  • Report suspected fraud at VSAFE.gov or 1-833-38V-SAFE (1-833-387-7233).
